Good Virtues: Helping Your Little Ones Grow Through God’s Promises

At four years old, your child is soaking up the world like a sponge. They are watching, listening, copying, and learning what it means to be kind, brave, patient, and loving. This is the perfect time to begin planting seeds of good virtues.

Our Covenant Series brings to life six powerful Bible stories- Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and Jesus-in a way your young child can understand. Each story is a gentle invitation into God’s promises and a window into character that lasts a lifetime.

Let us explore how each story helps you shape your child’s heart at this special stage of life.

Good Virtues Start with Obedience – Learning from Adam

Young children thrive on structure and clear boundaries. In the story of Adam, God gave a simple rule, and it mattered. This helps our little ones begin to understand the idea of obedience, not as punishment, but as a sign of trust.

When your child listens and follows your direction with a cheerful heart, they are beginning to practise obedience-one of the first good virtues.

Parent Tip: Use phrases like, “We listen the first time,” and connect it to how Adam was asked to listen to God.

Good Virtues Shine Through Faith – Just Like Noah

Faith may seem like a big word for a little child, but it begins with something simple: trust.

Noah’s story shows your child what it means to believe even when they cannot see. Whether they are afraid of the dark or worried about trying something new, Noah teaches them that God always keeps His promises.

Parent Tip: Try saying, “Even when it is scary, we can trust God, just like Noah did.”

Good Virtues Teach Courage – From the Life of Abraham

Abraham left everything he knew to follow God. Your child might not move countries, but even a new classroom or unfamiliar face can feel like a big journey.

Abraham’s story helps them understand courage: doing the right thing even when it feels a little scary.

Parent Tip: Celebrate small, brave steps, like going to bed alone or saying hello to someone new: “That was brave—just like Abraham!”

Good Virtues Build Gentle Leaders – Through Moses

Four-year-olds are just starting to explore leadership, usually through bossy play or wanting to be “first.” The story of Moses helps guide this into something richer.

Moses was a gentle leader. He listened, helped others, and kept going even when people complained. This is a beautiful model of kind leadership that your child can begin to understand.

Parent Tip: Say, “Being a leader means helping others,” and show it in action during play or sibling time.

Good Virtues Grow a Brave Heart – Inspired by David

David was still a boy when he stood before a giant. He believed that God was with him. That belief made him brave. Your child faces little giants- fears, firsts, or failures. David’s story shows that bravery starts on the inside, with faith.

Parent Tip: When your child is nervous, remind them, “God made you brave just like David!” I have discussed ways in which you can build confidence in your child in my blog.

Good Virtues Are Perfectly Shown in Jesus

In the end, the best example of all good virtues is Jesus Himself. He showed kindness, forgiveness, patience, and love. These are the virtues you are already trying to model every day. But now, your child can see those same actions in the life of Jesus—made simple, gentle, and clear.

Parent Tip: When your child shares, says sorry or shows kindness, point it out: “You are loving like Jesus!”

You Are Already Growing Good Virtues- One Story at a Time

Your little one does not need lectures. They need stories. Stories that shape their hearts. That gives them pictures of what goodness looks like. That teaches them how to love God and love others.

Our Covenant Series is designed to do just that—with six timeless stories full of colour, truth, and heart. It is a powerful way to bring good virtues into your home, one bedtime story at a time.
